Every year the Kosa community gathers to learn ancient carols, vinshuvannya (spoken blessings), and skits, to prepare for Koliada. Koliada is a winter ritual that now coincides with Christmas, but long pre-dates it in some areas of Ukraine. The tradition includes visiting people in their homes, to sing the ancient songs of creation, and good tidings, and to bless everyone for the coming year.
For Kosa Kolektiv, this a tradition that has bound us together for several years, as we've brought joy and folk fun to people all over Ontario. It's also been a key way we've kept the collective's activities going, through donations collected from generous hosts.
